All Work No Play Makes Julie a Very Dull Girl

I feel that my blog became very boring recently. Every day is the same: I made this and I printed that, it's good I leave out the endless browsing through catalogues and web-sites looking for good deals on services and materials.

Thank God that lovely and talented Patricia from http://alittlehut.blogspot.com/ announced an open call for An Honest Scrap Award: http://alittlehut.blogspot.com/2009/09/some-truths-about-me.html

The rules are these: everyone who was tagged should share 10 true things about themselves and then pass the award on to 10 other bloggers. Unfortunately, I don't think I can find 10 people who read my blog at this moment, so I will follow Patricia and let everybody who read this post decide if they want to be tagged and do it.

Here we go: 10 TRUE THINGS ABOUT ME.

1) I am of Russian, Mongolian and Polish heritage. Sometimes I annoy strangers, because nobody can guess my ethnic background.

2) You know all these joke about people who were dropped on their head when they were babies? I actually was dropped on my head right the next moment after I was born: young nurse slipped up. Go ahead, mock me.

3) When I was about 12 years old, my parents told me that a woman could never make a great cook, only a man can. They were giving me as an example my father who was, indeed, a great cook. Being your normal tomboy rebel I didn’t want to be associated with womankind in any way. I quickly picked up cooking and I was enjoying it ever since. And yes, I do think that it was my parents’ secret goal.

4) I hate learning languages, and I have no aptitude for it. I hate it so much I started to learn Esperanto when I was young as an act of protest against the very existence of foreign languages.

5) I am an author of three novels, but I don’t have any formal education nether in creative writing, no in literature. I have PhD in Philosophy. Sadly, it’s true.

6) I used to write for "Cosmopolitan" and I had being writing a "Style Guru" column online for four or five years. I have very unhealthy love-hate relationship with fashion.

7) In the perfect life I would be a teacher. When I was doing my doctorate study I was teaching in college and I loved it. It’s a shame I can’t teach now. Why? See par.4.

8) I am a registered background performer. Meaning that I work as a movie extra from time to time. My biggest gig was “I am not there” with Kate Blanchett, Christian Bale, Richard Gere and others.

9) I can swim with my hands tided up behind my back. Actually, I don’t think I am able to drown in any circumstances.

10) Once, when I was a kid, I fell through the ice on the lake. My friends pulled me out. It was April, and I don’t remember being cold, only a little scared and very surprised. My mother still doesn’t know about this episode.

  1. How far did you get in Esperanto? I'm not sure how long ago that was, nor under what conditions you were learning it, but Esperanto is still just as easy, plus a heck of a lot more accessible - both Esperanto material and Esperanto speakers - thanks to the Internet. If you ever get the urge to get back into it, a good place to start is Lernu.net, a Website rich in Esperanto learning resources, including free self-study courses. A good downloadable free self-study course (introductory, may not be your level) is Kurso de Esperanto.

  3. Miĉjo, thank you for URLs! It was long ago since I saw Esperanto page, so nostalgic... Maybe I should pick it up again!

Peanut, thank you :) I just know how to play this game. Every person can find 10 facts about themselves that stand out, but most people just give up quickly and write "I love music" and "I hate sushi". So now - YOU ARE TAGGED! We want to know 10 amazing things about YOU!
