I am up for a writing challenge (almost)

I am seriously thinking about doing NaNoWriMo this year. Thinking so seriously - I have sighed up! Why I am doing this? Well, it was already quite a few years since I produced a novel, and I feel the pressure rising. A pressure of self-doubt. I don't know I still can do it. And the terror of a blank page (a fear familiar to many) doesn't help.

So, my dear friends, if you are thinking about writing a novel for years, but can't overcome the anxiety of actually starting, National Novel Writing Month is for you. And me! The one of the real advantages of participating in NaNo is that it remove the numbing obsession over quality, because in NaNo all you care about is quantity! I would have to start writing a new novel on November 1 and finish at east 50 000 words (it's about 175 pages) till November 30. Quality of whatever I will be putting on pages is not relevant. I will "win" only if I cross 50 000 word line before November ends.

I already have a juicy theme, given me by my husband, and I am gathering some minimal information souses I will need (surely the cruel - some say impossible - time frame of NaNo makes the real research out of question: you barely have time to physically type the necessary number of words). I am actually quite excited, because I miss writing and the excuse to write poorly, with all spelling mistake I can make and with no consideration to grammar gives me wings the way "Red Bull" never did. I am hurrying up, finishing my calendar for 2011 - the one with fashionable kids, so no major project will tear me away from my novel.

Wish me luck!

  1. I followed your link and it's very tempting, but I'm wondering if I'll actually have the time to dedicate to it, but then maybe it would be my IT novel (cuz I've written like three, but nobody has been interested enough in them), I might just give it a whirl.

  3. Check out their FAQ: they say it is possible even for ppl with full-time job and kids, although it does take dedication. The good thing: you can't actually loose: even if you don't get all 50K, you'll still have a heavy piece of text, which is better than nothing :) DO IT!
