American Dream

Dedicated to a golden era 50s - early 60s when American Dream was going strong, a middle class was growing, all men had good jobs, women knew their places, children were respectful, there was no AIDS, no hippies and everyone had a fallout shelter under their pretty little house.

  1. This era was great. . . for certain people. For others in America, there was inadequate schooling and inhumane treatment on a daily basis. The 50's and 60's were the heat of the Civil Rights movement - The conflict grew to involve steadily escalating physical violence, bombings and intimidation by Southern whites. Law enforcement responded to peaceful protesters of inhumane treatment with batons, electric cattle prods, fire hoses, attack dogs and mass arrests. As far as I'm concerned, this was no dream. . . this was a nightmare. And I would never want to go back in time to deal with the ignorance and racism that was openly allowed then or during the time of slavery, or during the time of the Trail of Tears.

  2. Absolutely. This is why this picture was meant to be satirical - hence the mushroom cloud on the background and the sarcastic comment :)
