Reading Jules Verne's "20 000 Leagues Under the Seas".
"... These fishermen generally don't live to advanced age: their vision weakens, ulcers break out on their eyes, sores form on their bodies, and some are even stricken with apoplexy on the ocean floor... In Panama they make just $1.00 per week. In most places they earn only a penny for each oyster that has a pearl, and they bring up so many that have none!"
Vivid image, I like the style of your illustrations!
ReplyDeleteGreat illustration but wow, what a horrible job and life. : /
ReplyDeleteTank you, guys! And I surely hope that pearl divers' job situation changed since 1860s :)

ReplyDeleteReally like your style of illustration- vertical extreme is very effective and the sunrays give it great depth. Sad about the divers though...
